R&D Technician – Power Electronics

ABB Corporate Research, in close collaboration with varied ABB business areas, is developing the foundations for the next generation of ABB products.


The Power Electronics Converters team is looking for a high-caliber R&D Technician responsible for the mechanical development and testing of innovative power electronic converter prototypes. In this role, you will work closely with Scientists in tasks such as design, construction and experimental testing of ABB’s latest innovations in the area of power electronics. With your work, you will contribute to the overall success of the projects. - Apply professional CAD drawing tools for the design and assembly of power electronics converter prototypes

- Work in close collaboration with Power Electronics Scientists to develop and refine mechanical assembly concepts for compact power conversion solutions

- Design and construct power electronics converter prototypes in accordance with industry standards and incorporate essential safety features to ensure safe experimental testing

- Order and organize materials and components for the construction of converter prototypes, in addition to handling procurement and calibration of measurement equipment

- Support Power Electronics Scientists in set-up of laboratory test benches for power electronics converter prototypes, including full range of functional testing and safety features

- Assist with use of laboratories as a venue for special events and maintain a close dialogue with other key stakeholders at an international level



- Solid university degree (preferably Master's degree) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar discipline

- Excellent understanding of power electronics converter systems

- Knowledge of industry standard CAD tools

- Experience in assembly of power electronics converter prototypes and/or products

- Expertise in setting up laboratory test benches

- Open-minded personality with a keen sense of initiative and a confident nature
