Board

President

Julie Nussbaumer

In a small village near Bern, one can learn many things. For example, drinking beer or riding horses. After the first meeting, one would probably assign Julie to an art school. Her creative energy and calmness are very welcome in Zurich. In her free time, she likes to ride (publi)bikes and do various things.

But somehow she ended up studying mechanical engineering. Julie actively attends lectures, as she is an active member of the design team. During some lectures, she creates posters or adjusts layouts. She has also been seen on some brewery visits on Saturdays, as someone has to quickly design the blitz. During the week, there is no time, as there are events such as wine tasting or a brewery tour to Schützengarten.

She wants to leverage these valuable experiences now to lead the board as the president. Through the skills she has acquired as the Infrastructure board member, she serves as an important role model for the new board members. Especially when it comes to beer, some can certainly learn a thing or two from her.

Tasks

The president is responsible for coordinating the work of the entire board and represents the association to the outside world. He convenes the meetings and general assemblies and delegates the work to the individual departments. He is the link to the umbrella organization, the VSETH. Contact at praesident@amiv.ethz.ch

Quaestor

Konstantin Miola

Konstantin Miola, also known as Konsti, hails from the far reaches of Europe and joined us here at ETH 4 years ago. He can look back on a proud 1/5 century of life experience, which makes him a true veteran of our board.

Konsti found his way to the board through the brewing committee, and in 2022 he crowned his career by taking over as president. Along the way, he has done so many helper shifts at various events that he really should already be in the helper shift hall of fame. When he is not on the board or doing helper shifts, he can often be found at the Byro, where he has perfected the famous "Byro Chilling".

In his spare time, Konsti has a penchant for adrenaline sports such as skiing, mountaineering, climbing and sailing. But he is also at home in the world of science, as he studies Biomedical Engineering at the ETH.

A little detail about Konsti: He has an ambivalent relationship with cheese, and the two are definitely not best friends. You could say he has a "cheesy" aversion to it. With Konsti on the board, we can be sure that AMIV's finances are in the best hands, even though cheese may not be one of his favorite foods.

Tasks

The Quaestor is responsible for the financial affairs of AMIV, namely budgeting and accounting. He also manages the bank accounts of the association and checks the bills of all commissions. Everything financial: quaestur@amiv.ethz.ch

IT

Johannes Zumthurm

Johannes has had a direct career in the amiv. He grew up in Lucerne and had a career in the military after finishing school. He made it all the way to lieutenant. When he started his studies, he already joined the coding weekend in his second semester. And since then he has been a permanent part of the IT team. Therefore, the board is the next logical step. When he is not active at AMIV-IT, he is working in his own company. While coding or otherwise, he likes to drink caffeinated beverages. Be it mate or coffee.

Tasks

The head of IT is responsible for all technical stuff at AMIV. This includes maintaining the website, apps, beer dispenser, PVK tool, servers, workstations as well as leading the IT team and organising the coding weekend. Everything regarding the website: it@amiv.ethz.ch

Clemens Walter, Vice-President

Clemens Walter almost started his journey at AMIV in a completely different direction when he almost ended up at Bastli. But luckily he found his way to AMIV and was recruited for the AMIV IT team at a coding weekend. Since then, he has become an important member of the IT team.As the oldest of the current board, he was the only one to experience the Y2K bug, so he is naturally perfectly suited to be an IT board member in AMIV. After all, we all know that not even AMIV's IT is spared from bugs. The choice of Clemens as IT and bug veteran will certainly pay off.

In case he finds the time, he is studying electrical engineering in the 1st master semester. In his spare time, when he is not restarting the beer vending machine (we are working on it), he is leading Aikido classes, is out in nature biking or hiking.

Event Planning

Jonathan Jelenik

Jonathan Jelenik, affectionately known as Jonny, is our man for the cultural extravagance on the board. When it comes to organizing events, he's the one who takes the lead – or should I say, the sushi knife? Jonny is not only the cultural head of our trio but also the third youngest member on the board. And yes, while he may be of smaller stature, when it comes to planning events, especially wine tastings and sushi nights, he becomes a giant! These gatherings are a little slice of paradise for him because they're not about putting on a show – it's all about the joy of good food and drink. Speaking of drinking, Jonny is no slouch when it comes to beer either. He knows how to savor a brew while enriching the cultural life of the organization. Now that's what we call multitasking at its finest!

But the best part comes last: During the last general assembly, Jonny took a spectacular tumble. Of course, this was done entirely on purpose (how else could something like that happen?) to bring some cheer to the nearby AMIV members. You could almost say he's willing to risk his own well-being to improve the leisure of others.

Tasks

Besides the demanding and time-consuming studies that ETH is known for, our social life is often neglected. That is why the department of culture pursues the task of offering students a varied range of leisure activities. The "Kulturis" organize various events where our members have the opportunity to get to know each other. For two years now, "the Kulturis" team has been supporting the cultural directors in organizing events. In this team, anyone who feels like it is welcomed. In addition, depending on the event, there are numerous helpers to handle all the work involved. If you are interested, please contact us at kultur@amiv.ethz.ch.

Jonas Lehmann

Is it a Bird? Is it a Plane? No, this is Jonas!

You wouldn't believe it, but the tall, blond shot is one of the new Kulturis. The Bernese has started his ETH studies as a mechanical engineer in autumn 2021, and has already set up many events in his first semester, some of them even newly invented. Not only does the lad excel in his competence as an organiser, he is also a highly talented chef and mixologist. Whether vodka, gin, rum or schnapps, with a little lime, syrup and love, Jonas can conjure up the best "brother-trust-me" mix a connoisseur has ever come across.

Noah Giger

Whether it's gambling, drinking games or organising events, Noah is the person you want on your side. He is a fundamentally correct guy and an all-rounder who simply makes every team better. But watch out; he likes efficiency, so sometimes when he's stressed he can come across as a bit rancid, but he actually means well and for the sake of success! (Insider tip: just give him a snus and he'll calm down).

Noah's friends are already well aware of how he picks three sentences every month and then rotates through them as if there were nothing else to say. But if you listen to him carefully, you notice that he actually has a lot to say, and especially a lot of clever things to say. As the only one of the three Kulturis who has never organised an event himself, he takes a leap into the deep end when he takes office. But this pair of new eyes will certainly come in handy for the other two lollipops and help them to keep an overview. And who knows, maybe he'll even propose a new event at the Spring Culture Kickoff?

Samuel Sutanto

Within the confines of AMIV's closed walls, a new leader emerges: Samuel Sutanto. In his role as the freshly minted board member of External Relations, he has quickly become an essential figure. His journey is a testament to a captivating evolution: starting from the depths of STEM sciences, he has passionately and resolutely transitioned into a business enthusiast at heart. Samuel's roots trace back to the picturesque St. Gallen, where he unveils his multifaceted personality and profound connection to Switzerland.

Beyond the confines of academia, Samuel channels his passion for travel, using it as a wellspring of inspiration and knowledge. Surprisingly, amidst his studies in mechanical engineering, one can find him immersing himself in the realm of computer science, skillfully and determinedly applying his talents.

Facing the challenges of contemporary life, Samuel seeks equilibrium and fortification in the gym, sculpting and nurturing his body with admirable discipline. True fulfillment, for him, lies not in sensory indulgence but in a clear mind and physical well-being. As night falls and darkness blankets the world, Samuel often finds joy in the pulsating beats of Techno, whisking him away into the vibrant tapestry of nightlife. Yet, the gentle strums of his guitar also move and inspire him, showcasing his love for music as diverse as his entire persona.

Tasks

The members of the External Relations Department establish new contacts with the business community and maintain existing ones. Their main task is to raise sponsorship funds and exchange information between industry and students - to create added value for the students. Together with the President, the board members of this department are the face of the AMIV to the outside world. They also organize the big AMIV company contact fair "AMIV Kontakt" every autumn semester. In order to be able to offer interesting excursions during the semester as well, they have to rely on external help. Would you like to support the ER team in the area of excursions, contact or sponsoring? Then get in touch at er@amiv.ethz.ch.

Julien Poffet

Meet Julien, the lively External Relations Board Member of AMIV! Julien is a powerhouse of enthusiasm and creativity, always ready to lift spirits—literally and metaphorically. However, there's a funny twist to his strength: he's not allowed to deadlift at home because his parents worry that their house might crumble under the sheer force of his mighty lifts! Despite this hilarious limitation, Julien brings boundless energy to the AMIV team, effortlessly connecting with everyone and ensuring our external relations stay stronger than ever. Who needs deadlifts at home when you can lift the spirits of an entire organization? Julien has definitely mastered that art!

Thomas Herzog

In the vast realm of academia, a lone economist once lost his way, only to find his true calling in the enchanted lands called ETH. Meet Thomas Herzog, the illustrious steward of the Herzogschaft Hochschulpolitik ITET, a title as grand as his adventures. Thomas is no ordinary talebearer; his journeys to visit his fellow knights and counts (a.k.a. economics student pals) span continents, from the hallowed halls of St. Gallen to the bustling streets of Munich and the jungles of Singapore. Yet, fear not, for he is no malevolent overseer from the tales of old. With the mythical knowledge of electrical engineering, Thomas stands firm, a beacon of happiness, enjoying his renown and the treasures it brings.

His life is a tapestry of adventures, from techno escapades to valiant crusades through the crypts of CAB and successful skirmishes against the mechanical ordering terminal of McDonald's. Always in high spirits and emanating fragrances that would make Jeremy Fragrance weep with envy, Thomas gallivants through the countryside in his Porsche, a true knight of the modern age.

The serfs of AMIV are graced by his presence often, always greeted with a smile, a beer in hand, and occasionally a meal from Lemongrass, despite his usual penchant for the haute cuisine of the world, with a soft spot for Japanese delights.

Tasks

At ETH, students have a lot of say - perhaps more than you think. The HoPo board members are involved (together with a HoPo team per department) in the departmental and teaching conferences of the two departments covered by AMIV. In addition, they are the first contact persons for all possible study-related questions, organize exam preparation courses and conduct lecture evaluations by semester speakers as well as tutorial evenings for students from the lower semesters. Do you have any questions or suggestions? Please contact the HoPo team at hopo-itet@amiv.ethz.ch.

University Policy D-MAVT

Stefan Stefanov

At the tender age of 20, Stefan is taking over as the new director of university politics from his predecessor. He is currently in his 3rd semester of the Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and he hails from the sunny capital of Bulgaria, Sofia. In his free-time, he likes to play drums in his rockband or sing with his golden voice in a choir. If you don’t see him at the Bÿro (which is very likely), you’ll find him chilling in his favourite place in Zurich (at home), enjoying one of the (apparently) best Falafel-Kebabs in from Mit&Ohne and watching some Anime, where the golden motto “the cringier, the better” always applies (he is a vegetarian, but you can probably find that out for yourself after a 5 minute conversation with him).

If he looks familiar to you, you're not mistaken. Before he started at ETH, he gained fame and glory on YouTube with his Minecraft channel and Olivia Rodrigo / The Smiths covers. That part of his glamorous life is on hold for now, but once he's done with ETH, he'll continue to entertain us there, so be on the lookout for his comeback!

He settled into the HoPo even before beginning his studies, when he heard about the organisation at the pre-study event. Although he didn't ride the semester speaker wave for long, his interest never faded. As a board member, he will ensure that no BS ((B)bad S(ideas)) is tolerated and that the students’ voice is not lost in important discussions such as PAKETH, all and any evaluations, or when planning new programs of study.

Infrastructure

Benedikt Horn

If there's someone on the AMIV board who stands out from the crowd, it's Benedikt Horn. With his impressively long hair, he could pass as the lead singer of a heavy metal band, but no, he decided to join AMIV instead. Although his hair is big and wild, his heart is even bigger. Benedikt, also known as the "beer expert" on the board, has an insatiable thirst for knowledge and, well, beer. He used to be the undisputed Pub King, mastering the art of beer drinking to perfection. Now he oversees our infrastructure with the same dedication and precision.

By the way, did you know that Benedikt brews his own beer? If that's not dedication to the cause, then we don't know what is. He knows the underground organs of CAB better than a bear knows its den. If you ever get lost or can't find the bathrooms in CAB, Benedikt is your man.

With Benedikt Horn on the board, we always know that we have someone who not only takes care of our technical needs but also ensures that we have enough beer to keep us in good spirits. And if you ever need his advice, just ask him, as long as you don't mind wild hair or a fondness for beer.

Tasks

The Infrastructure board member is responsible for all premises of the AMIV and the facilities belonging to the association contained therein and their condition. The design and allocation in the cultural area, rules for the lounge and the supply of drinks take up most of his time. He is always pleased to see how AMIV members separate the garbage and make an effort to keep the rooms tidy and clean. He always has an open ear for all requests, incentives and ideas and is looking forward to an email from you to infra@amiv.ethz.ch.

Information

Martin Zahariev

As a Zurich native, the path to ETH was not far for Martin, our youngest Board member at 19. Although his Italian origins are regularly assumed, this is more likely due to his Bulgarian roots. Even shorter than the way to the ETH, was the crossing of the street to the CAB, where one inevitably ends up at the beer vending machine and the AMIV office. He was lured by the Jass tournament and soon part of the Hertz OK. The AMIV's annual techno party. A beer later, he was on the Info Board. When he is not managing the numerous social media channels of the AMIV or answering your questions, he is playing tennis, skiing or kiting. He likes kiting so much that he even sacrificed a cruciate ligament for it. He is also successfully studying mechanical engineering.

Tasks

The head of communications coordinates various information channels such as the Announce, Facebook and the good old website, and ensures that all students stay well informed about the events in and around their favorite association. Last but not least, dutifully answering everything that remains at the end of the day in the info@amiv.ethz.ch mailbox is part of it.
